Citigroup Inc. (C) gained 2.4 percent to $24.33. The biggest U.S. bank by assets is in talks to sell $12 billion of loans at a loss to Apollo Management LP, Blackstone Group LP and TPG Inc. as part of an effort to shrink its balance sheet, a person briefed on the matter said.

Sealy Corp. (ZZ) rose 11 percent to $7.89 in extended trading yesterday. The world's largest bedding manufacturer said it earned 17 cents a share in the first quarter. That's 55 percent more than analysts estimated on average, according to a Bloomberg survey.

United Parcel Service Inc. (UPS) dropped 2.9 percent to $71.15. The world's largest package-delivery company reduced its first-quarter earnings estimate because domestic shipments are slowing as the U.S. economy weakens.
