Citigroup Inc. (C) slid 91 cents, or 3.2 percent, to $28.15 in trading before U.S. exchanges opened. The largest U.S. bank cut its dividend by 41 percent after writing down the value of subprime-mortgage investments by $18 billion and posting a record loss in the fourth-quarter of $9.83 billion, or $1.99 a share.
Fair Isaac Corp. (FIC): The creator of credit-scoring systems lowered its forecast for fiscal 2008, saying it expects to earn as much as $1.90 a share, down from $2 projected earlier. The shares fell 15 cents to $28.34 yesterday.
Genentech Inc. (DNA) fell 74 cents, or 1 percent, to $69.90 in trading before U.S. exchanges opened. The world's second-biggest biotechnology company said sales of its top product, the cancer drug Avastin, rose 23 percent to $603 million in the fourth quarter. That's short of the $616 million analysts were expecting.
Williams-Sonoma Inc. (WSM) fell $2.17, or 9.8 percent, to $20.03 in trading before U.S. exchanges opened. The U.S. gourmet- cookware retailer reported a 0.4 percent decline in sales for the nine weeks through Dec. 30 and lowered its fourth-quarter profit forecast, the San Francisco-based retailer said in a statement distributed by Business Wire.
