BPZ Resources Inc. (BZP): The oil and gas exploration company said it completed several distribution contracts earlier than expected, allowing it to produce about 2,500 barrels of oil per day in Peru beginning in early November. BPZ climbed 19 cents, or 1.9 percent, to $10.34 yesterday.
Eli Lilly & Co. (LLY) declined $2.16, or 3.8 percent, to $53.99. The world's biggest maker of psychiatric drugs said it suspended two studies of the anti-clotting drug prasugrel to make possible adjustments to dosing.
EMC Corp. (EMC) jumped $1.57, or 7 percent, to $24.10. The world's largest maker of storage computers and software said third-quarter profit rose 74 percent as businesses bought more products to archive and secure data. Sales climbed 17 percent to $3.3 billion, beating the $3.19 billion average estimate of analysts in a Bloomberg survey.
Longtop Financial Technologies Ltd. American depositary receipts (LFT) rose $2.60, or 8 percent, to $35 on the second day of trading. The Chinese maker of financial software raised $182.6 million in an initial public offering.Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) added 30 cents, or 1 percent, to $31.55. The world's largest software maker may be piquing investors' interest again after languishing since January. Sales of ``Halo 3'' games for the Xbox 360 console are topping company projections, and Microsoft is selling higher-priced versions of the Windows Vista operating system, increasing speculation that first-quarter profit beat analysts' estimates.
Motorola Inc. (MOT) climbed 75 cents, or 4 percent, to $19.30. The largest U.S. maker of mobile phones posted its first profit in three quarters and gave a forecast that beat analysts' estimates after cutting more than 5,000 jobs.
VMware Inc. (VMW) advanced $5.93, or 5.7 percent, to $109.45. The maker of software that makes computers more efficient said profit excluding some items was 23 cents a share in the third quarter. That beat the 17-cent estimate of analysts in a Bloomberg survey.
Zimmer Holdings Inc. (ZMH) retreated $6.88, or 8.7 percent, to $72.49. The world's biggest maker of artificial hips and knees reduced its forecast, predicting fourth-quarter profit of as much as $1.05 a share. The average estimate from analysts in a Bloomberg survey was $1.16.
