A.O. Smith Corp. (AOS): The maker of Vertex water heaters said an Alabama jury returned a $50 million verdict against the company in a lawsuit that alleged one of its gas water heaters caused an explosion that killed a man. A.O. Smith said it plans to appeal the verdict. The stock fell 79 cents to $37.69 in regular trading.
Avis Budget Group (CAR) rose $1.45, or 5.9 percent, to $22.36. The rental car company announced it signed a new deal to buy vehicles from General Motors Corp. dealers.
Crystallex International Corp. (KRY): The gold mining company awaiting approval to start work on the Las Cristinas mine in Venezuela said it will restate its 2005 and 2006 financial statements to correct accounting on interest costs. The stock fell 2 cents to $2.89 in regular trading.
Marsh & McLennan Companies Inc. (MMC) The insurance broker that paid $850 million in 2005 to settle a bid-rigging suit may be worth $40 a share as management focuses on re- building revenue, Barron's reported, citing T. Rowe Value Fund manager John Linehan. Marsh & McLennan stock fell 53 cents to $24.30.
