Brinker International Inc. (EAT) rose $1.09, or 4.1 percent, to $27.40 in trading before U.S. exchanges opened. The operator of Chili's and Romano's Macaroni Grill said fiscal fourth-quarter earnings from continuing operations were 71 cents a share. The average estimate among 17 analysts surveyed was 48 cents a share.
Input/Output Inc. (IO) The maker of seismic data products said second-quarter net income was 8 cents a share, below the 13-cent average estimate of seven analysts surveyed. The shares gained $1.10, or 8.2 percent, to $14.58 yesterday.
Redwood Trust Inc. (RWT) The California-based real estate investment trust said second-quarter net income, excluding some items, was $1.35 a share, exceeding the $1.15-a-share average estimate of five analysts surveyed. The shares gained 90 cents to $34.83 yesterday.
Systemax Inc. (SYX) The direct marketing company said second-quarter net income nearly doubled to $13.8 million, or 37 cents a share, from $7.1 million, or 19 cents a share a year earlier. The shares declined 79 cents, or 4.3 percent, to $17.71 yesterday.
Toyota Motor Corp. ADR (TM), each representing two ordinary shares, fell 90 cents to $122.32 in trading before U.S. exchanges opened. The automaker said it will delay the introduction of a dozen hybrid models after problems with new battery technology, the Wall Street Journal reported.
Valhi Inc. (VHI) The producer of titanium dioxide pigments reported a second-quarter loss of $4.9 million, or 4 cents a share, compared with profit of $17.7 million, or 15 cents, a year earlier. The shares gained $4.54, or 27 percent, to $21.38 yesterday.
