Bear Stearns & Cos. Inc. (BSC) shares lost $2.97, or 2.4 percent, to $118.25 in trading before U.S. exchanges opened. The manager of two hedge funds that collapsed last month blocked investors from pulling money out of a third fund as losses in the credit markets expand beyond securities related to subprime mortgages.
Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. (CMG) rose $4.98, or 5.6 percent, to $93.32 in regular trading in Germany. The fast-food chain reported profit of 60 cents a share in the second quarter, beating the 45 cent average estimate. The company boosted its annual sales forecast.
General Cable Corp. (BGC) The maker of wire and cable products for energy and communications companies said it expects to earn as much as 90 cents a share in the third quarter. Five analysts surveyed on average estimated $1.06. Shares fell $2.05 to $79.50 in regular trading yesterday.
InterOil Corp. (IOC) gained $4.37, or 20 percent, to $25.90 in trading before U.S. exchanges opened. The Canadian energy company will partner with Merrill Lynch & Co. and Pacific LNG to develop a liquefied natural gas facility in Papua New Guinea at a cost of as much as $6 billion.
Navteq Corp. (NVT) The world's biggest maker of maps used in car navigation gear said it expects to earn $1.45 to $1.50 a share this year. That exceeded the average estimate of $1.35. Shares fell $1.33 to $54.13 in regular trading yesterday.
Sanofi-Aventis American depositary receipts (SNY), each worth half a share, fell $1.57, or 3.8 percent, to $40.18 in trading before U.S. exchanges opened. Europe's second-biggest drugmaker said profit excluding takeover costs and writedowns declined 6.1 percent to 1.68 billion euros, or 1.24 euros a share, in the second quarter, compared with 1.79 billion euros, or 1.33 euros, a year earlier. Sanofi was expected to earn 1.79 billion euros.
Rupert Murdoch has sealed a deal to buy Wall Street Journal publisher Dow Jones & Co. (DJ) for $5 billion ($60 per share), ending a century of family ownership and adding a crown jewel to his global media empire, News Corp.
