Bear Stearns Co. (BSC) rose 1.9 percent to $6.02. The New York Post reported that shareholder Joseph Lewis, who lost more than $1 billion as a result of the company's collapse, and former Chief Executive Officer James Cayne are trying to find investors to counter JPMorgan Chase & Co.'s $276 million offer for the investment bank, citing people familiar with the situation.
Deutsche Telekom AG American depositary receipts (DT) dropped 10 percent to $16.19. Europe's largest telephone company said the decline in sales and earnings at its combined Internet and fixed-line unit in Germany will slow this year from 2007 as it slashes costs and adds customers for Web services and bundled phone, Internet and television packages.
Lockheed Martin Corp. (LMT): The world's largest defense company won a $133.2 million contract from the U.S. Air Force to provide two KC-130J transport aircraft, according to the U.S. Defense Department. The stock rose 1.5 percent to $101.55 in regular trading yesterday.
MGIC Investment Corp. (MTG): The largest U.S. mortgage insurer said it plans to raise at least $675 million through stock and convertible debt sales to increase capital at its main insurance unit. Shares fell 5.4 percent to $13.25 in extended trading yesterday.
Nokia Oyj American depositary receipts (NOK) slid 7.1 percent to $30.40. The world's biggest maker of mobile phones declined after Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications Ltd., the fourth-biggest, said first-quarter earnings and revenue will fall on slower handset sales, higher research costs and a component shortage.
Odyssey Re Holdings Corp. (ORH): The property and casualty insurer said its board had authorized the repurchase of $200 million in shares, bringing the total buyback to $400 million. The stock rose 1.3 percent to $36.47 in regular trading yesterday.
