99 Cents Only Stores (NDN) rose 32 cents, or 3.7 percent, to $9 in trading before the open of U.S. exchanges. The discount retailer reported profit of 14 cents a share in the fiscal third quarter. Analysts, on average, anticipated the company to earn 10 cents, according to a Bloomberg survey.

General Motors Corp. (GM) declined 62 cents, or 2.3 percent, to $26.50 in trading before the open of U.S. exchanges. The world's largest automaker posted a fourth-quarter loss on rising costs in North America. The loss was $1.28 a share, compared with a profit of $1.68 a share for the same quarter a year ago, the Detroit-based automaker said.
