Accenture Ltd. (ACN) rose $2.32, or 6.6 percent, to $34.96 before the official open of U.S. exchanges. The second- biggest management consulting company posted a first-quarter profit that topped analysts' estimates after winning more contracts.
FedEx Corp. (FDX) fell 58 cents, or 0.6 percent, to $94.05. The largest air-cargo carrier said package-delivery company said second-quarter profit fell 6.3 percent on rising fuel costs and slowing demand for freight shipments.
Leggett & Platt Inc. (LEG): The maker of mattress springs and lumbar supports for automobile seats reduced its fourth- quarter forecast, saying it expects earnings excluding some items of as much as 13 cents a share. Analysts, on average, anticipated 31 cents. The shares rose 5 cents to $18.81 yesterday.
MasterCard Inc. (MA) rose $3.69, or 1.7 percent, to $216.03. The second-biggest credit-card company was raised to ``outperform'' from ``peer perform'' at Bear Stearns Cos.
Nike Inc. (NKE) rose $1.80, or 2.8 percent, to $65.60. The world's largest athletic-shoe maker said second-quarter profit increased to 71 cents a share on higher sales in China and Europe and a weaker dollar. Analysts estimated profit of 66 cents.
Rite Aid Corp. (RAD) fell 33 cents, or 8.1 percent, to $3.77. The third-biggest U.S. drugstore chain posted a loss on costs associated with its purchase of the Brooks and Eckerd chains. It also reduced its full-year profit and sales forecasts.
