Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM) rose 89 cents, or 1.1 percent, to $85 before the official open of U.S. exchanges. The world's largest oil company was raised to ``buy'' from ``neutral'' at UBS Investment Bank, which said shares of the world's largest oil company may gain on higher crude prices.
General Moly Inc. (GMO): The molybdenum miner agreed to sell 8.24 million shares to ArcelorMittal (MT) to raise about $70 million to help finance development of the Mt. Hope project in central Nevada. General Moly shares slid 2 cents to $8.46 yesterday.
Giant Interactive Group Inc. (GA): The Shanghai-based maker of online games reported third-quarter sales rose 9.5 percent to $54.1 million from the second quarter. Giant Interactive shares dropped 62 cents, or 4 percent, to $14.88 yesterday.
Hewlett-Packard Co. (HPQ) climbed $1.56, or 3.2 percent, to $51. The biggest personal-computer maker reported fourth- quarter profit that beat analysts' estimates and said it plans to buy back as much as $8 billion in shares.
MoneyGram International Inc. (MGI): Blum Capital Partners LP led a group that acquired a 7.8 percent stake in MoneyGram and said they may push for management changes or unspecified corporate transactions at the wire-transfer company. The stock fell 46 cents to $14.40 yesterday.
Nordstrom Inc. (JWN): The owner of 101 department stores in the U.S. said third-quarter profit excluding some items was 59 cents a share. That exceeded the average of analysts' estimates by 7 cents. Nordstrom shares lost $1.99, or 6.1 percent, to $30.52 yesterday.
