American Reprographics Co. (ARP): The provider of document-management services reported third-quarter adjusted earnings per share of 35 cents, below the average estimate of 39 cents among eight analysts surveyed by Bloomberg. American Reprographics shares lost $1.36, or 6.7 percent, to $18.93 yesterday.
Barclays Plc American depositary receipts (BCS) declined $2.06, or 4.4 percent, to $45.17. U.K.'s third-biggest bank fell on speculation that it approached the Bank of England for emergency funding, analysts said.
CA Inc. (CA): The second-largest maker of software for mainframe computers said second-quarter profit almost tripled and the company increased its full-year earnings forecast. CA shares dropped 18 cents, or 0.7 percent, to $26.27 yesterday.
Las Vegas Sands Corp. (LVS) fell $17.80, or 14 percent, to $107.50. The world's largest casino company by market value reported a third-quarter net loss on higher interest expenses and costs to open the 3,000-room Venetian Macao in August. Excluding some items, profit was 12 cents a share, missing the 29-cent average estimate from analysts in a Bloomberg survey.
NYSE Euronext (NYX) climbed $2.09, or 2.3 percent, to $93. The trans-Atlantic stock and derivatives exchange said third-quarter profit rose as credit-market swings spurred record trading of other securities. Excluding merger expenses, NYSE Euronext earned 76 cents a share, beating the 73-cent average estimate of 12 analysts surveyed by Bloomberg.
Pepco Holdings Inc. (POM): The owner of the utility in and around Washington will replace Manor Care Inc. (HCR) in the Standard & Poor's 500 Index, S&P said in a statement. Pepco shares lost 55 cents, or 1.9 percent, to $27.94 yesterday.
PNM Resources Inc. (PNM): The New Mexico utility said it would reduce its workforce by 15 percent by 2009 as it moves some customer-service to automated systems. Shares declined 63 cents, or 2.5 percent, to $24.38 a share yesterday.
Transmeridian Exploration Inc. (TMY) added 10 cents, or 5 percent, to $2.11. The oil and gas exploration company said in a statement on Prime Newswire it received final, non-binding bids and is in ``active'' talks with possible buyers.
USEC Inc. (USU): The Maryland uranium supplier said third-quarter net income was 51 cents a share, exceeding the 24- cent average estimate of analysts surveyed by Bloomberg. USEC shares slid 39 cents, or 4.4 percent, to $8.41 yesterday.
